Daily Supplement Regimen - how does it look?
This is my daily supplement regimen. Specifically Kelly (I always have lots of questions for you), would you add or change anything to this plan were it you? I am 4.5 weeks out now. My doctor was going to prescribe additional vitamin D (I think something like 50,000 iu once per week if I remember correctly) but not until my 6 week appointment on the 24th.
Bariatric Advantage 500mg Calcium + D3 chews - 3 per day (for a total of 1,500 mg calcium)
Centrum Silver Chewable - 2 per day
Bariatric Advantage 60 mg Iron chewable - 1 per day (right before bed, has some vitamin C in it too, I space it at least 6 hours after taking my last calcium chew).
B12 Sublingual - 2500mcg (once per week)
Protein - Usually between 70-80 mg per day - I do 1 protein shake, rest is coming from food from my meal plan at this point...
Liquid - Just about 64-80 oz. /day
Looks good to start with.
A couple of things to think abou****ch out for:
50,000 IU D3 once a week probably won't be enough. Most post ops need at least 10,000 IU a day, and many need more. Also, if your doc is prescribing vitamin D, that's D2 and it's in oil. D2 isn't absorbed well by anybody and after RNY we malabsorb fats, so we don't absorb vitamins in oil so well. You need dry D3.
There is vitamin C in the BA iron but if I remember correctly (and I'm too lazy to look it up right now), it's not enough to really help with the absorption of the iron. To help with absorption, you need 200 mg C for every 30 mg iron.
2500 mcg B12 once a week probably won't be quite enough. The ASMBS recommends 350 to 500 mcg a day, which would be 2450 to 3500 mcg a week, but many people need a bit more than that. So jus****ch your labs so you'll know if you need to increase it.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
There is no prescription D3. You have to get it over the counter.
