Taken from work by ambulance today!
I felt just fine this morning when I got to work, but by 9am my back was hurting a little. By 10:30, the pain was moving around to my left flank. I took the one Vicodin that I had with me because I was supposed to lead a meeting mid-afternoon. By noon, I was in excruciating pain. My whole body was shaking and I could barely walk. One of my coworkers called an ambulance and one of the guys pushed me down the long hall, into the elevator, and into the lobby in a chair because our elevators are too small to accommodate a stretcher without major effort.
I knew that i had a kidney stone passing on the side that he did NOT do the lithotripsy on. My blood pressure and heart rate were way up so they gave me morphine in the ambulance (it was going to be 20 minutes to the hospital). Once I got to the hospital, they checked my urine and sent me for a CT scan right away and then gave me some Dilaudid. Yes, once again, they were GOING to give me Toradol, but I explained that I had gastric bypass and would not take it since it was an NSAID. The nurse understood, but just a minute or two later I heard the nurse explaining to someone (whom I couldn't hear) that even in IV form Toradol could "easily" cause an ulcer in "either" of my stomachs! (Yay! I was happy to hear someone who "gets it" educating someone who still thinks NSAIDs are ok if given by IV!)
CT showed a small stone just an inch above my bladder, so it had almost completely passed. Between the morphine and Dilaudid, I am not having any pain at all, but I ahd to leave my brand new car at work, and I do NOT want to leave it there overnight. It is right across the street from a university and we have had occasional problems with car vandalism when people were working very late (or in the middle of the night) to meet a deadline. Hopefully, once the meds wear off I will be up to driving and mom can take me and the dogs (who both LOVE to ride in the car!) up to get it (and follow me home, just in case).
I hope and pray that this is the end of he kidney stone nonsense (and that one of the managers isn't too upset that he had to cover for me and facilitate the meeting this afternoon)!!

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
Not fun, did it once, don't want to again. Glad you are getting better.
