The hair loss doesn't mean the "surgery is working"... it just means that you HAD surgery.

39 pounds MAY be very slow loss, but that depends on how much you have to lose.  People who have more weight to lose generally lose more quickly.

As other have asked, how much protein are you getting per day and how many calories? Too few of either can slow your weight loss.  Have you and a 6 months check-up with your surgeon?  If so, what does (s)he think?

Feel free to vent... that's what we are here for... but we would also like to be able to help in a more tangible way, so if you can give us an idea of what and how much you are eating, we can probably make suggestions that might help.

I am 18 weeks, out tomorrow almost 5 months and I have only lost 52.8 and sometimes like you I am bummed out when I see people who have lost over 100lbs already and they are closer out than me., how much did you lose pre op? I lost 104lbs pre op and wondering if that is why my loss is slow. What did your surgeon say?

To my eyes your progress is pretty much right on track.  You're 6' and started with approximately 100 pounds of excess body weight.  This is painting with a very broad brush but most people lose about 50% of their excess body weight over the first six months.  You have lost about 40%.  While that may be on the "slower" end of the spectrum it is unquestionably normal and should not be worrisome.

You have to be very careful when comparing your progress to others.  I'm just a couple weeks shy of my 6-month month mark and I've lost about 110 pounds.  However, I had over 200 pounds of excess body weight to begin with so my percentage lost is about 55%.  Just about half, like just about everyone else.  :)

It's pretty much a biological impossibility to "...exercise [and] eat hardly anything..." unless you've got a thyroid issue or something so if your progress is not what you were hoping for then we need to see hard data in order to help you.

I can definitely relate to how you are feeling, I work at a place where a lot of people had surgery around the same time and I always find myself comparing to them, you are lossing about 1.75lbs a week, if you take your loss and divide it by 6 months and then by 4weeks, I am now 13 months out and that is the average of what my loss is too, I started out with only about 100lbs of excess weight and I have lost all but 15lbs. I know it can be frustrating but if you keep to your plan, exercise, it will work. Keep your head up.
