Well done Lora! You must feel so proud! What was the topic of your dissertation?

It is on the use of writing activities, which involves some different areas of your brain than talking does, in the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). One of the suggested revisions was a different title, LOL -- my Chair really disliked my original title for some reason -- so at the moment it doesn't have an official title.  (I am terrible at things like that. I have had trouble coming up with good, interesting titles for some of the presentations I have given at Counseling conferences, too.)

Congrats Lora -- I know how hard you've worked to get to this point!!!!!

Any chance you'd be willing to let me read it when you are done?   I have a PhD in communication and have been doing research on the ways that diagnoses of chronic/terminal diseases create a PTSD-like state for the parents/caregivers of young children and how (or if)  that PTSD impacts the ability to advocate for that child and communicate with the doctors.

Congratulations! I work at a university, so I know how exciting this is. What are you going to do with your "free" time now? Any plans?

I am going to join my family in a trip to Siesta Key, FL in the fall, but other than that, I will just spend more time with the puppy and (hopefully) feel less stressed about making time to do housework!  I also renewed the Rec Center membership I had a couple of years ago, so I want to get back into using their machines for strength training (and am hoping my new knee and my still-arthritic one will let me use the elliptical machine).  Then the are these things called FICTION books that I used to have...

Congratulations! I never had the energy or ambition for a PhD, so it's always impressive to me when someone completes one.

Congrats!!!  I'm ABD now myself, but it will be at least a year before I finish. :)

Yep, it seems like it takes forever to get ABD status (especially if you are taking classes part time), and it seems like that is SO close to done.  Then you realize how long the dissertation is going to take, LOL.

Hang in there...
