Calcium Citrate + D3 Petites from Walgreens
Hey Kelly or anybody else that might could help me. I went and bought the Calcium Citrate + D3 Petites, On the back it says that it only has 400 Mg of Calcium and 500 IU of Vit D, per serving which is two pills... So Will I need to take 8 of these a day?
Also my Vit was low and I know you said I needed 10,000 IU to get it back to where it needs to be so I am guessing I need to go purchase some Vit D to go with this to get to the 10,000 IU?
Also, I bought the Nature Made Full Strength Minis Multi for her... It's a softgel and I have problems with swallowing pills so I bought this, it says serving size is 1 softgel per day are you familiar with this brand and will I need to double up on it too?
Thanks in advance..
Yes you'd need eight of the petites a day to get 1600 mg calcium citrate - we need 1500-2000 mg a day.
what I said about vitamin D was that most post ops need at least 10,000 IU a day to maintain a good vitamin D level. I've known three that were able to do that on just 5000 IU a day. I've known many that needed even more than 10,000 IU a day - to keep my level good, I have to take 50,000 IU three times a week, which works out to something like 28,000 IU a day.
So I'm saying you will probably need at least 10,000 IU. And that is in addition to whatever you get in your calcium and multi. So yeah, you'd need to buy some. What I would do, personally, is order the 50,000 IU capsules from vitalady.com because then you could take one or two a week. It would be fewer pills to take (you will have trouble finding big doses in stores, you probably won't even find 10,000 IU pills in stores) and one bottle would last you forever so it would end up being cheaper. I mean, you could buy 2000 IU pills at the store and take five a day, but I'd rather take one or two capsules a week, personally.

Yep. They are tiny capsules and I take three a week, so one bottle lasts me a long time.

With most brands of multis you'd need two a day, and there aren't any that are real small. That's because to fit all the stuff you need in a multi, it makes a big pill.
With regard to calcium, you can get bigger pills that had 315 mg calcium citrate per pill, and then you'd just need six a day instead of eight. But they are bigger.
If you hate pills, you might wanna try Upcal D. It's a powder you can add to any drink. It has no taste. One serving is 500 mg calcium citrate. I haven't seen it in any stores, you have to order it online. If you would like to try it, though, before you order a whole box, I'd be happy to send you a packet.

Just PM me your address. You don't need to pay me for it. It will cost me one stamp to mail it to you.

You can order it from Amazon or from Colonial Medical. It's called Upcal D.
You need three or four doses of calcium a day. I only use the Upcal D once a day. I use calcium citrate pills twice a day and then put Upcal D in my protein shake for my third dose.
But yeah, you put it in any drink, or you can put it in something like yogurt. If you let your drink sit very long, the powder starts to settle to the bottom but it mixes back in easily if you stir or shake your drink.
