So I was sitting in my recliner sipping an 8 ounce cup of beef bouillon without any problems. When I finished it about a 1/2 hour later I stood up to bring my cup to the kitchen and I felt a very heavy pain in my chest... like something was stuck. It went away after a few minutes. Did I drink too fast? Also, why is it only the left side of my abdomen that aches? I am even having trouble standing up straight! Please help!!!

Try walking for a bit.  Hope that helps!

Hey lady I had that happen a lot in the first week. For me it's was that sitting for Lon periods then standing seem to cause a gas bubble or just soreness as things seemed to rearrange after standing. Like I mentioned earlier day 4 was the worst for me. I called my site grins office on day four cause the pain changed and it concerned me. They talked me through it but I learned that I could get ahold of them after hours which made me feel better. Most people say there left side is sore that's where they retract your liver and a lot of work is going on over there. For some reason all my pain was on my right. I know they used the robot and I had a huge hiatal hernia but even my PA was surprised when I said my pain was on the right. Lol. Hang in there it gets a little better everyday and I would fall asleep every night saying over and over that I was healing great and my body was going to be fine lol. Kept me from worrying about all the what ifs. Good luck and hang in there

I'm 4 days post ops and continue to walk even if its around your living room or out to your mailbox at least 2 times an hour. I've had a great day today with only 1 dose of pain meds. Walking is going to keep those air (gas) bubbles to a minimum. Also, try to keep your 8 oz to protein shakes & sip water throughout the day.

Good luck!!!

I think the biggest incision and most "work" is on the left side, which would explain that part.  My left side is my painful side too.  My SIL had surgery immediately after me and she is in the same boat.

Hi there,

We had surgery on the same day. I'm surprised you can get 8 ounces of liquid in a half an hour. I can only sip two little 1 once cups at at time. then i have to take a break for a few then continue. Good for you  but that may be too much for your pouch so early. My left side is also very sore and i have had to cough a few times. I think it was because i added salsa to my soup and a piece of pepper got stuck somewhere. I hope your feeling better you may need to get rid of gas. I do that best while on the potty. Wow never had so much gas in my life! Everyday gets better and i only took my pain meds 2 times yesterday. I think i will only need it when i go to sleep otherwise it puts me to sleep. Walked for 20 min yesterday i think i will do 15 today i may have been too much. i woke up more sore today.  I hope you are feeling better and God Bless. Every day a little better:)

Yes, I think I did overdo it with the 8 oz. yesterday. Taking it a little easier today! My side is still pretty sore today but the gas pains are getting a little better. How are feeling? Did your doctor tell you when you should have a BM? It has been 4 days for me. Could be part of my gas issues.

Glad to hear from you. I have had two BMS already. Yes the surgeon gave me some laxative(miralax)  to take home i sipped some yesterday and went soon after. I think going to the potty is very important to make sure things are flowing well.

This is certainly not an easy thing we are doing but i truly believe it will be worth all the discomfort and pain. I haven't been able to take much nutrition in. I get full so easily. Call your doctor and ask for a prescription or get some from the store. My husband who is a nurse says it is a very good laxative. Oh and mix it with some crystal light it tastes alto better that way. Good luck and God Bless!
