Too late???
Hello
I also did not have a pre-op diet. I did not even have a bowel prep. I had my surgery in Switzerland, where Swiss German is spoken - I was so worried that I was "lost in translation" and somehow missed the information about the bowel prep, that I asked my surgeon(who can speak English) on the surgery table if it is correct that I did not have a bowel prep.
When I asked my Doctor about the liquid pre-op diet he told me that the reason why they don't do it is that they have a good tool to lift the liver and that some studies have shown that a person's metabolism decrease after the liquid diet. It seems that the immunity also decreases after the liquid diet.
Every Doctor has their own program, which I am sure they have researched well, so just follow your Doctor's plan.
Good Luck with your surgery.

A lot of surgeons don't recommend a bowel prep before RNY. Since they aren't operating on our bowel (large intestine) I don't know why some surgeons do recommend one. If you don't eat or drink for 12 hours before surgery, which is a common recommendation for any type of surgery, your stomach and at least the upper part of your small intestine, which is what they are actually operating on, will be empty.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
