OT: car buying weirdness and question

My bf has a genius iq also, he is the smartest person I have ever met, he was 22 when we met and he amazed me then and 11 yrs later he is still amazing me.  We are very different, and completely unique with totally polar opposite life experience yet our mutual love and respect is the reason why it works.

Your ex sounds extremely narrow minded and disrespectful of your interests.  Who is he to judge.  Ex's are like cat toys, bat them around and torture them for fun.  Yes I can be evil, my ex deserves it.

I think he is just a very "simple" person.  Not simple-minded (he is intelligent), just simple in terms of the scope of his world, so he doesn't understand that the scope of my world is broader.  If I were independently wealthy, I would be a professional student and traveler.  I would be collecting college degrees at all levels (always thought it would be cool to take the Radiology Tech or Automotive Tech Associate Degree programs at a local Community College... Or I could finish the Master's degree in Ancient History that I quit when al I had left was one class and a thesis... Or I could learn all sorts of languages...) and he always thought that was weird.  To him, a college degree was just a prerequisite to get a job (and a Master's degree was just to make more money).  When I quit my full-time job to get a Master's degree in Classics (languages, literature, history, philosophy, etc. of Ancient Greece and Rome), he thought I was crazy.  The time I spent at Vanderbilt turned out to be GREAT (even if a Classics degree is pretty worthless (even if you get a PhD)).

He was initially attracted by some of the breadth of my interests (my knowledge of football and the fact that my eyes didn't glaze over when he talked about cars), but then I think he found it intimidating in some ways. His loss!

It sounds to me like they are trying to manipulate you into buying the car they want to get rid of. I would not believe anything they had to say at this point

Dealer with the black car sounds like a snake. He chose to install door guards - he owns that problem. I would walk away simply because he is pushy.

A car is a long term commitment.  For my last new car I wanted a white one.  The dealership only had red.  The dealership was able to trade inventory with another dealership and get the white one.  Don't settle when it comes to a new car or you will always be second guessing yourself.  Get the red car.  If you dealership won't get the red one for you, go to the dealership that will.  I also drive manual transmission.  I made them find a manual transmission also.  I'm buying a new car in a few months.  I want a white BMW 328i.  I want the tan leather interior and I want white.  When I go to buy my car it WILL be white with the tan interior or I won't buy it.  I'm not spending the next 6 years of my life miserable in my car.

Get what you want Lora!

I considered a 328i, but if I was going to buy a BMW, I wanted the convertible which was out of my price range (and I would have wanted that in red manual, too, LOL.... Or the "Orion silver" color (which isnt really silver at all).

Yes, I will be getting a red one or none at all. (see update)

LOL a convertible in Ohio?  I'm from Ohio (Massillon)--I've only been living in Miami for 5 loooooooooong years (would love to move back to Ohio if I could find a decent job with benefits).  I don't know if I would buy a convertible in Ohio though.  Then again I wouldn't buy a convertible in Miami either--I like to keep myself refrigerated while driving.  I must have AC at all times lol.  I prefer a manual transmission in Ohio though.  I think they handle better in the snow and always better on the curvey, country roads.

Glad you're getting the red car!  Post some pics when you get it.

Yeah, it's hard to justify the additional cost of a convertible for just the couple of months is isn't too cold or too not/humid to have the top down in Ohio.  With a coupe with a sunroof, if you roll both windows down, it's close to having a convertible (but only from 10-2 when the sun is directly overhead, LOL).

I had a convertible mustang, in Connecticut, just crank up the heat and wear gloves in the winter, the spring and summer and fall was awesome.  Of course it cannot be driven in the rain or snow with the useless rear wheel drive.  I have an suv for that.  I sold the mustang a while back and still miss it, my most favorite car I ever owned.

I would never own a convertible in Florida, its just too hot there.
