I need some HELP!!

Even though smoking is a chemical dependency, the habits that surround it are the hardest to break.  The chemicals you depend on leave the body rather quickly....it is the lifestyle that is sooo difficult to change.  But guess what???  Everyone that has been successful with WLS had to break some bad habits.........and it is hard.  But you CAN DO HARD THINGS.

90% of any permanent change is the WILL to do it.  If you think you can do it, you can.  If you think you can't, well, you can't.  Tell your self that YOU CAN DO THIS.

I am proud of you for tackling this habit, and in the end you'll be so proud of yourself for this important step!

I quit 13 years ago w/o any meds or patches. It was HARD, I won't lie. After years of infertility stress, I finally got pregnant. My goal was to have a healthy pregnancy and baby. Your goal is to have WLS and get to a healthy weight. Keep your eyes on the goal. Remind yourself, especially during the tough times, that it will be SO worth it. Keep your hands, mind, and mouth busy...gum, ice, crafts, research WLS, etc. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! Best wishes!!

Good Luck in how you choose to do it. I didn't have to quit. My Surgeon recommended it but didn't make it a requirement. I know I shouldn't but I'm not perfect.

I quit cold turkey. I used a chart I made up on the computer. It literally highlighted hour by hour at first. Then it got easier and I started highlighting ever 2 hours, 6 hours. So on. I drank a TON of Madagascar Vanilla Red by celestial seasonings. It had kinda a tobaccoy flavor to me. Also take time to visit Brian's on whyquit.com Thay was an eye opener.

I used the nicotine gum to quit. Stuff was nasty so it helped me quit the gum, too.

Next time you have a cigarette, take it out and get it "ready" , then put it down for five minutes before you allow yourself to smoke it. Keep adding time to your waiting period everytime you need a smoke. You will eventually need less and less and hopefully none at all. Good luck.

Thank you all for the kind words and encouragement. I saw my PCP today and asked her about the Chantix pill. Since I suffer from depression and anxiety and with the meds I take she didnt recommend it. She told me it also causes bad dreams and insomnia which I also take meds to help me sleep. Im going to ask my psychiatrist about it to see what he says. I may have to do this cold turkey. And yes the thought of not being able to have surgery unless I quit is definitely playing on my mind. I want this surgery so bad. Ill keep you all posted on my progress. On a lighter note, Ive lost a total of 38 lbs. since the beginning of April. 50 more to go for surgery. Had my EKG today with good results. Psych. eval. on Friday. Thank you all again.

Next month makes a year since I quit and I used electronic cigarettes and hard butterscotch and cinnamon candy. I started out using the Blu one with nicotine then alternated between their nicotine and non nicotine and them just quit it all together
