Be VERY sure you are not getting it in a sugar based syrup!! I do not do well with narcotic painkillers so after the first 8 hours or so, I asked for liquid tylenol. The nurse said no problem, ordered it up from the pharmacy. Three hours later I was seriously dumping and dry heaving. It was only when the PA from the bariatric center checked on me the next morning did they figure out why! And I am not a dumper, have only dumped mildly once in four months on an over ripe banana. So be extra sure they know you can't have anything with sugar in it. My nurse wasn't even able to confirm with the pharmacy that a sugarless liquid version was available, so I stuck with the crushed up tylenol :(

I would ask them if there is a sweetener in it - they should also offer a sugar free option. I am 5 weeks post op and I crushed regular ones until I couldn't stand the taste and now I just halve them (if you have the xtra strength I would make it into thirds). Doing ok with this method - took two this morning with a muscle relaxer. Dealing with major pain from issues not associated with my new pouch.
Oh and I gagged a few times when I crushed them too - so stinkin bitter. Yuck. Also these medications can also effect the enamel of your teeth over time - so if you are crushing or chewing a tablet that's meant to be swallowed make sure you are rinsing your mouth really well after or brushing your teeth all together. In another life I was a dental assistant for years. I have seen the nasty effects of pain medications on patients teeth.
Good luck :)
