I had severe plantar fasciitis, spurs and achilles tendonitis. My podiatrist said I needed surgery on both feet after I lost weight and could handle the recovery. Im now 120lbs lighter and my feet dont hurt anymore at all! I cant say what your experience will be but for me I went from holding onto cabinets to walk around the house to jogging, so there is hope :

I saw a podiatrist for mine. He confirmed through an x-ray that that was what was wrong, and then they made some custom orthotics for me. I suffered with the fasciitis for, like, 20 years, but the custom orthotics just made it go away. Insurance paid for them, too.

I've had plantar fasciitis for years, and my recommendation to you is to get night splints to wear on your legs while you sleep. They keep you from pointing your toes, and they've really helped me. Also, custom orthotic inserts, and never be barefoot.

My podiatrist says, in his experience, weight loss does not help this condition. I hope you and I prove him wrong! Good luck.

I have severe plantar fasciiitis . So bad in fact that when I used to get out of bed I'd sit there for several minutes stretching my foot. It felt like walking on nails .  So I went and got x-rays then to the podiatrist. She said never ever wear flat shoes. Always wear something with a wedge. The best shoes in the world are called klogs . Within 2 weeks of wearing them my feet were 80% better .  Now, a year later I can walk barefoot with no pain.  Check it out. The have them on amazon, zappos, 6pm (my favorite)

Good luck !

Hi Shawna -

I haven't had surgery yet, but I HAVE had plantar fasciitis for years! It didn't bother me as much when I had an office job, but now I'm a teacher and on my feet ALL day long. I did the cortisone shots, custom orthotics, etc., and was about ready to just wheel around the room in a chair all day, which would NOT have helped LOL! but - I talked to friends of mine who are nurses and hairdressers (on their feet MUCH longer than I am), and they all swear by DANSKOS. Of course I've heard of them, but knew they were expensive. Anyway, I gave in and tried a pair - ordered them from zappos for the free shipping & return if needed - but didn't need it. They were a true miracle and a lifesaver! I ended up buying 2 "winter" pairs (closed toe clog types) and 2 summer pairs (cute, strappy sandals, etc.), and have had no more issues with my feet UNLESS I go barefoot or wear tennis shoes. My floors at home are hardwood and tile, and so I have to put on the Danskos while walking around the house or else they begin hurting in about 15 minutes.  I'm not trying to endorse any brand, and you can find them at a lot of retailers online (most expensive through their own website so I'd shop around), but they truly saved me! I'm also hoping that some of the problem will be alleviated with weight loss, but who knows? This was fairly easily fixable! Good luck!

I have to agree with the Danskos.  I bought a pair before surgery and they are wonderful. They also come in wider widths so you can get the right size.  They are pricey but so worth it.
