I am still preop for a few more days.  I ordered "Pro Cal" protein shakes by R Kane and love the chocolate and have been using those for the past month or so for breakfast.

For post op I purchase unjury unflavored protein which I understand ca be mixed into everything from crystal light to mashed potatoes without changing the consistency of the food/drink.

Good luck!!

My favorite is Body Fortress Chocolate with 1/2 tsp baking cocoa added to each shake. But, I didn't like it pre-surgery. Good news is, the one I like best is the cheapest I've found and can be found at Walmart so it's easy.

Don't forget, your protein should also be a whey isolate.

Your protein does NOT have to be whey protein isolate. IF you are going to do a whey based protein then the "isolate" is recommended for best absorption.  I discovered I cannot tolerate whey and I discussed with my dietician what options are out there. She said the vegan options are just as good if not better than whey.  She said the reason that the surgical team (which she is part of) pushes whey isolate is because most people want something they can buy at walmart or target etc.

There are many other great options out there, but they aren't  as common as the whey products. I have had great success with a couple.  I don't recommend soy based protein at all but I have found a couple of good vegan proteins. Sun Warrior Raw Sprouted brown rice protein is good and not overly sweet. The vanilla  is sweetened with stevia. Even better is Garden of Life brand RAW PROTEIN.  It is a combination of various sprouted plant proteins and has a very mild flavor. It is unsweetened and goes really well in a fruit smoothie. I wouldn't recommend it for a "protein shake" alone though. It is best when mixed into something else.  I tried the VEGA ONE brand vegan protein and it was WAAAAY too sweet with stevia. It is all personaly preference.

Other options that I have not explored yet are Spirulina or Hemp proteins.

Also keep in mind that stuff you like before surgery is not necessarially what you will like after surgery. I cannot tolerate anything overly sweet anymore and most of the whey proteins I tried are sickeningly sweet after surgery.  I suggest you try various types of protein samples AFTER surgery to find out what will work best for you.

I can stomach almost any chocolate flavored one. But I prefer celebrate ens shakes, chocolate or vanilla cake batter made with 12 oz of water instead of 8. It's pricey but one shake has one multi in it and one less vitamin for me to take.

I have tried just about everything out there and I found that I like Chike the best.  Mixes easily and has no after taste...
