Should I Be Concerned?

Yesterday, I got up off the couch and felt a sharp pain.  I went poking around in my fat to see if anything was amiss, and I discovered a good-sized hard lump on my left side, just below my ribcage.  I read about a lot of hernias here, and I have never had one, but in the past, when I had to feel one, they were more squishy.  This is quite hard and though not painful to the touch, it hurts when I get up or sit down and this would not hurt if it were a tumor.

Any ideas?  Do I need to see a doc?

I would definitely see your doctor.  It might be nothing, but I would certainly get it checked out.

I would call the doc just in case. If it were a hernia and hard I'd be very worried however it could be scar tissue as well, which I wouldn't be worried about.

I put in a call to my surgeon yesterday.  I could have gone in today but he us 1-1/2 hours away and they are supposed to be calling me this morning to see if he will fax a Rx to have x-rays done at my local hospital with the results faxed to him.  Thank you all.
