3 Days Post -Op Need Help about protein Shakes
Hi, I just had my surgery on the 18th. I am lactose intolerant, Could I get some names of some protein drinks that I can buy already premixed. It has to be Whey Isolate and at least 20 mg of protein and only 5 grams of carbs.
The ones I bought I can't add milk so I pu****er in it and I can't handle it..
I think premix would be better for me..
Thanks for any help...
Andrea
Not sure.... Three years ago I got to where Milk was just killing me. Bloated for days and diarrhea non stop. I tried Almond milk, lactaid milk and soy milk. One of the doctors here said its the fat content but even if I have no fat milk it does it so I am not sure what the deal is. I had my Gallbladder taken out to on Thursday so I am hoping milk won't be a issue anymore but I think I will wait a little while out before trying. Right now I have dealing with gas in my ribs. grrrr Thanks though
I believe all Whey Protein Isolate is Lactose Free. You can add lactose free milk to it if you'd like. If its the protein powder you don't like, there's a reviews area on peoples personal favorites.
If you like fruity flavors Syntrax Nectar is a good one. http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&keywords=nectar%20syntrax&pa ge=1&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Anectar%20syntrax they also Oreo Cookie and Cappichino, as well as chocolate. I found the chocolate to be wimpy. I know that there are places you can buy samples. The only Store near me that carried it was VittaminShoppe, and they had individual packs you could take home.
The brand i'm using now is Isopure Zero Carb. I like it because it has vitamins in it also. All kinds of flavors on it too, although I stuck with Mango Peach, Chocolate and unflavored. Figured i could mix it up from there with jello powders etc.
I'm not sure if it would be 100% suited for you, but seeing that my husband is actually casein/dairy allergic, we've found a 100% dairy free solution.
It may not meet your exact nutritional needs.
We use PB2 Powdered Peanutbutter & Trader Joe's Chocolate Hemp protein powder mixed with their Vanilla Coconut Milk (our milk replacement of choice as I like the texture - it mimics 2% milk well and isn't grainy like other alternatives such as soy)
You can get PB2 online or in some stores in their healthfood section. We get it at a local Hy-Vee, and Trader Joe's is obviously something more national, but not in all cities yet. We usually buy a few containers at once as it has a good shelf life.
Often we mix about 10oz Coconut Milk with 1 TSP of each powder and blend it. He has this every morning with his vitamins.
Hope it helps!
