Where are the vitamin recommendations found?

Yep, the links the above posters gave you are correct.

Reading the guidelines yourself is very wise.  Many surgeons and dieticians don't follow those guidelines and sometimes they even recommends things like calcium carbonate, which we can't absorb.

I thought I'd throw in some of my experience here. I developed peripheral neuropathy at about a year post-op. All my vitamin levels were checked and, even though I was only taking one multivitamin a day, everything came up normal.

However, my B-6 was too HIGH; after doing some of my own research, I found that elevated B-6 levels can cause neuropathy (this was info from a book on the subject of neuropathy, as well as in some scholarly articles I found on the internet). I have no idea how or why it happened, as I was not taking additional B-6 and taking a very basic multivitamin.

After an MRI and much confusion, the problem simply disappeared. So I'm leery of taking too many vitamins. My last PCP said she knew of a woman that developed neuropathy from too much vitamin D after surgery (she wasn't having the levels checked).

I think caution is key; it's bad to err on either side. Make sure you get the recommended labs done and you should be fine.

It's is possible to take too much of some vitamins and minerals, though that's pretty rare.  getting labs done regularly should prevent that, though.

If your B6 was too high, then your labs weren't coming up  normal, were they?  Your B6 was coming up too high, not normal.

As  you always state, Kelly, that we mus****ch our own lab results and watch the trends.  High would be something I would be responding to as much as a low reading.

I am so glad that you are well now.  Sounds like a very unpleasant experience to say the least but you persevered and found the possible causes for you.

We all have to learn these new bodies and how they work.  My is sure different than the old one I traded in back in December, LOL.

Thank you for responding.
