I wish I'd brought vaseline instead of chapstick.  My lips were SUPER dry and crusty. Also-my sister brought me some lotion when she visited, which was so nice since my hands were dry!

Good luck! Sounds like you are ready!! Be sure to do your deep breathing exercises with the spirometer so that you don't end up BACK in the hospital like me (with pneumonia)!

Yes I'm practicing the breathing exercises. I actually got my hands on two of them so I am using one at home challenging my kids to see if they can beat me. So far I'm the champ at about 3800 units and I have no idea what the units are measured in. Mine only goes to 4000. I was able to figure out how to cheat it so I was messing with my oldest by getting to 4000 and still having more room to breathe. He was getting frustrated. I told him I was cheating by breathing in through the mouth while exhaling through the nose to make room for more air. It took him a lot of practice to figure out that it really was impossible and then he figured out what I was doing. :-) I can be such an a$$ sometimes.

Even if the practice doesn't actually help, which I'm not clear how it does, it will give me an idea of what my abilities were before surgery and where I need to be afterwards. So it gives me a goal anyway.

That is so funny about challenging your kids!  Sounds like you are really prepared!

Best of luck to you!!

I took a bunch of stuff to the hospital with me and didn't use any of it.  I just zoned out in front of the tv when I wasn't walking the halls.

Also, the hospital recommended that you not bring anything valuable that might get stolen.
