OT - Gus is growing like crazy!

Gus continues to grow like crazy (currently filling out more than gaining height or length), and his protective instincts are kicking in (which makes me feel a bit less anxious being at home alone and somewhat incapacitated because of my knee surgery).  He barks at the doorbell and at anyone he sees through the front window or front door, but is friendly once someone is "admitted" to the house (the friendliness will fade into aloofness as he gets older).  When the physical therapist is here, he stays very close to me.  He is also sleeping through the night (uncrated) without any "accidents" (although I have been keeping the bedroom door closed, which I won't do once I am sure he is 100% reliable as far as housebreaking).

He is probably close to 30 pounds already.  He gets shots again next week, so I will know then. To show how much he has grown, the first picture was taken the week before I had my knee replacement (he was 12 weeks old) and the second one was taken today at 15 weeks old) in the exact same spot on the fireplace hearth (his favorite place to sleep because it is nice and cool/cold).  He was thoroughly brushed 2 days before the last picture, so you can see how soft his hair is.  What a difference 3 weeks makes!

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

He's so cute.  My dogs grew like crazy until 6 months old and now much slower, they are 8.5 months old now and close to 60lbs.

Enjoy.

Here they are....

Yeah.  Khan was 50 pounds at 6 months old and then grew slowly for another 7-9 months until he reached his final size and final weight of 68 pounds.  If Gus is 30 pounds as I suspect (I'm not really physically able to weigh him right now, of course), he is a bit ahead of Khan, and Khan was a big boy.  Khan and Gus came from the same sire, and he is pretty stocky (but not necessarily particularly tall or long) at 70 pounds.

I am so glad you added the picture, Heidi!  They are just gorgeous (and who doesn't love doggies playing in the snow)!!

He is even more beautiful now!  And, he looks so mellow.  Glad that he know that he is protective.  My little **** Zues are not protective, and I wish they were.  His coat looks so soft. Allison

So cute!! We are getting a dachshund puppy this week. She will only be 6-8 pounds when grown so I cannot relate to big dogs...lol.
