I was having such a great day and then my PCP called and the blood work they ran yesterday to see if I qualified for B12 injections came back that my iron was so low I have to go in for 3 week of IV Iron infusions.  Now I do not like IV's so not sure how this is going to go, has anyone every had to do this?  I am going to call my surgeons office tomorrow and let them know but I am extremely nervous.

It's very common.

I think it's a piece of cake but I'm sure there will be others with horror stories!   I have them every 12-18 months and feel great afterwards ...

I really don't think they are anything to be scared of!!!

Don't worry. It easy. Bring a book and just relax or take a nap during it.

I had 3 before surgery and I must say-it is very relaxing. I am a busy mom so it is actually a nice break when I am forced to sit and relax for an hour. I just sit in a recliner and turn on the tv and relax. You could even take a nap! If u r nervous-maybe ur dr could give u some anti-anxiety medicine beforehand.

Very common.

I've had two rounds of them. The difference in how you'll feel after is remarkable.

Drinka lot of water before you go so that they can find a vein easily.

May I add that it is important to drink a lot of water the day before and all the way up until your time to have the IV.  Just drinking a bunch right before is not as helpful for finding veins.   You have to give it time for the water to get into your system.  You should do fine with the iron infusions.  I give them to patients all the time.  Most of them enjoy getting them....or at least they enjoy the fact they feel better after getting them.  Good Luck!
