Off Food

Hello everyone.  I'm wondering if anyone has this experience.

I had RNY 14 months ago.  I have done great. No complications.  I've lost 76 lbs and feel awesome.  I started doing Zumba once or twice a week since June and recently joined a gym and now go 30 min on the elliptical machine.  I'm hoping to add to that with weights and more cardio.

My question is.... I just don't feel like eating anything.  I do eat.. because I have to but since surgery I just don't want to.  Does that make sense?  I have no cravings.  Can't be bothered with anything really.... seriously....

I eat kinda vegetarian, chicken (rarely), fish ****asionally), veggies (often), carbs (healthy carbs.. I will not do carbless)

so what gives?

I am only 10 weeks out, but I am not hungry at all.  Ever.  I rarely get a craving.  I eat because I know I need to.  Sometimes I feel a bit shaky and know I need to eat.  But, I really don't want to eat.  And I used to be a huge meat lover, but now, not so interested in meat.  I'm not supposed to do chicken until 6 months out (the one time I cheated I threw it up), so that leaves beef, fish, beans, and other various forms of protein.  I do a lot of yogurt.  And I do the clear Isopure protein because I need to get more protein.  I have found that if I keep my calories above 400 (usually they are 300-400) and my protein above 55, I have better scale losses.   But, basically, I'm with you.

Some days I feel like eating and other days not so much.  I chalk it up to eating to live and not living to eat.  You now have a different relationship with food.  I don't think alot of us have much of an appetite-- at least I don't.  Sometimes I feel hungry and take a bite of something and I'm done..whereas before surgery, I would have ate non stop.

Good luck!

I am 4.5 years out and never WANT to eat, I eat because I have to. It really is kind of a curse.....if I am busy doing things I can completely forget to eat. When I know that might happen, I will set a timer on my phone to remind me. I guess it is better than WANTING to eat constantly.

About the not wanting to eat part, I am not there because my surgery won't even be until summer sometime. Anyhow, I am trying all different kinds of protein drinks for my pre-op diet of 2 weeks. I found that one with 23 g of protein holds me off food for a bit. I just noticed today that after not having a protein drink for almost 2 days now (by choice), I am have eaten more in these two days than with the drinks. I am also trying to eat smaller portions more often. I used to eat maybe 3 meals a day and a snack. Now, I usually have 4-5 small "meals" a day and don't find myself as "deprived" of food.

I know I am headed in the right direction with surgery because I am already changing my thoughts about foods and how much I eat. Just went to a restaurant the other day with my mother and when the waitress took our order, I also asked her to bring me a "to-go" box so I could put at least half of the meal back before even beginning!

Thanks for your replies, and everyone else for that matter. I am learning so much from this forum! Best wishes............
