I can't imagine how stressful this is for you. For me, often it is the prep and the not knowing is worse than the actual event!

I hope everything goes well with your surgery... sending positive energy your way!

Lora, I have no experience with the things you mention above but I sure do wish you peace while recuperating!
One more thing start taking a major stool softener NOW!! I just had exploratory surgery.. 4 days of colace before I finally had some " action" OMG it was worse than the surgery!
Hope that gave you a giggle! Good luck!!

Lora,

It is completely understandable to be nervous...my dad had a double knee replacement several years ago (he was afraid if he did one at a time that he would chicken out on the second lol). He often comments that it is one of the best decisions that he made for himself. He worked hard in rehab but it really did make things so much better for him.

I hope that everything goes smoothly for you!

Had knee replacement 15 months ago.....ain't gonna lie...it was tough !!!   But....I don't have the same pain that I had before and I am not collapsing periodically.   Not an easy road that you are fixing to travel, but you can do this !   Good luck and blessings are being sent your way !

Slow and steady !!!!  Have a Blessed Day !!!!!!

You will be in my thoughts and prayers. You will get through this with support of your mom, your strong will and prayers of loved ones. The pain will be there, but it sounds like you have done what you can ton prepare for it. Remember to do your exercises, despite the pain, as they are vital to having a fully functioning knee in the future.

My mom just had knee replacement surgery on Friday.  She is doing great.  She was up and walking the day of surgery and she refused almost all pain meds.  She said she was fine and it just felt like her stitch line was going to pop open when she was bending the knee but the PT said he hears that all the time but it has never happened.

You are going to do great.  My mom is also overweight - 190lbs so she has that to deal with on top of being 70 yrs old.  I think you will be very surprised at how much easier it is then what you are thinking.  My mom was transferred to a rehab facility today since she lives alone.  But she is already planning her escape this weekend from the care home.  : )

I hope there are no PTSD triggers for you and you can always be the bad patient that my mother is and remove the nose oxygen thing and the leg compressors.  Both of those things driver her nuts and she just takes them off when she feels like it.  The nurses put up with her because she is old.  LOL

Well, I definitely won't be refusing ANY pain meds, LOL!  I am glad your mom is doing well.

Thanks to everyone for the words of encouragement.  I had a massage and a counseling session (and two Ativan) today, and Gus and I had a short walk (I am looking forward to being able to walk him more eventually), and I opened a package of GS cookies, so I am feeling calmer.  I need to finish up some cleaning and packing for the hospital before I go to bed, and then tomorrow by the time I vacuum the whole house (while Gus is outside because he is VERY frightened by the vacuum), shower and dress, and get Gus's toys and crate packed up, it will be time to take him to mom's and then head for the hospital.

I am ready to just GO and DO it!

Im sorry you're stressing and I would be too. But my mom had hers done a few months ago and she breezed right through it. She also has a very low pain tolerance. You'll be ok!! Hugs
