Vitamin Question..if anyone can help.

The vitamins I take are:

2 - Citracal

1 - Multi Vitamin

1 - Iron Capsule (had to special order these from Canada, the DR. said they are the best for us)

1 - B12 (once a week)

1  - Stool Softer

I take this everyday (except the B12).  What do you have to keep separate?  I keep hearing, don't take the calcium with the iron, or is it dont take the calcium with the multi vitamin? Or does it matter?  And if you have to keep them separate, how long apart should it be?

I'm coming up on my 6 month check up with blood work, but I wanted to get this figured out now.  I feel wonderful, so thinking I'm doing it right, but just want to double check.

Thanks for the help!

Dina

Calcium and multi vitamin can be taken together, iron pill is suppose to be taken 2 hours from calcium pill or anything containing calcium. Hope this helps.

It depends on if the multi you're taking has iron. If it does, I would separate the calcium and the multi too, as well as calcium and iron. You should take them at least two hours apart.

Oh, and one more thing. You should be taking at least 1500mg a day of calcium. Since we can only absorb 500mg at a time, you should be taking it at least three times a day.

We also need to take our multi twice a day because we need to get 200% to get the full benefit.

Where do you get your iron?  I live in Canada and I have to get iron from the States. Curious, what brand is it?  Thanks

The name of the Iron is called FeraMax150.  Its from a company BioSyent.  These are Iron Capsules that the Dr. said I could absorb much easier.  What do you get?

Iron and calcium need to be separated.  But - the ASMBS says we need TWO multis a day and 1500-2000 mg calcium citrate - which would be SIX to EIGHT Citracal a day.

Here is my daily vitamin schedule. (I have one of those weekly med trays with 4 slots per day. Helps me remember everything to take!)

Breakfast: Vitamin and Calcium tablet

Mid morning: Calcium tablet and fish oil as well as Biotene

Mid Afternoon/dinner: Vitamin tablet and calcium tablet and two Vitamin D3 tabs

Bedtime (10 pm) Carbonyl or Heme Iron w a vitamin C capsule.

1 time a month self given vitamin B12 shot

My labs have always been above perfect and because everything is in a compartment I know what I have taken or not taken and everything is set to go for the week.

Good luck

Warmly,

Jackie
