After surgery, I know you shouldn't eat simple carbs like white bread, but would honey wheat (like honey wheat english muffins or sandwich thins) be okay or does it have to be whole grain ? Not a big fan of whole grain  !!

There really isn't much nutritional difference between an average honey wheat bread and white bread.  (Compare the nutritional information on both labels.)  Whole grain is much better, but if you eat bread only very occasionally, it isn't a big deal if it isn't whole grain.  If you eat it on a regular basis, though, or start eating it just a few weeks or months after surgery, that is a problem.

Most surgeons recommend that people avoid breads as much as possible (and some people almost never eat it) because it takes up a lot of room and offers little of nutritional value (especially of it is not whole grain).  Also, some people find that they physically have trouble eating bread after RNY.

I do eat bread, and have since I was far enough out post-op to tolerate a very small portion (generally 1-2 oz. at most). I take a balanced approach, but yes, it really should be whole grain if possible. Even better if you're willing to bake your own and avoid any of the processed stuff entirely. The more wholesome your food, the better satiated you'll feel. My favorite honey-wheat bread recipe is not entirely whole wheat, but it is nutrition packed:

But as ****rogirl pointed out, it's much more important for post-ops to focus on protein intake. For a long time, you won't have room for things like bread after you get adequate protein. Frankly, it might even make you feel sick. It's different for everyone and only you and your surgeon can gage what works best for you. Best wishes!

There is a bread I saw advertised just a few days ago. It's called paleo bread. It is very low in carbs, only 5..but net carbs is 1.
