First Bowel Movement after surgery
I was a special case from the sounds of it.
I had a bowel movement the next afternoon. The first one was normal... but was soon followed by 4-5 others over the next 5-6 hours. They were loose and had dark red blood.
Now before you panic... it is normal to have one or two dark blood BM's post surgery, but since mine were frequent with significant blood... they took me off blood thinners and kept me in hospital an extra day to watch my hemoglobin levels... it was more of a precaution since I lived over an hour away from the hospital that did my surgery and there was a significant snow storm at the time.
The one thing I can say is be a little more aware of what's happening in the bowl.... as unpleasant as it may be there are things the dr's and nurses are best to know... if you must keep a log of pain/ meds/ BM's/ nausea/ dizzyness etc... I just keep track on myfitness pal in the section that says notes. easier to see patterns and such.
I had one in the hospital, maybe the day of or day after surgery and it was pretty funky looking. No pain, probably due to the morphine pump, but kinda loose and not pretty due to the leftover blood. Subsequent ones were much more normal. Hope that's not TMI!
