Letting go of the VSG
It is hard to wrap my head around the idea that I'm going with a different surgery than the one I've been researching for the past 18-20 months. I researched RNY for years prior to that, so feel I have a great grasp on it, too.
VSG was approved by insurance... Just waiting on insurance approval switch to RNY.
Golly, I hope it's the right decision!!!!
I wanted a VSG and couldn't get approval for it, so went with an RNY instead. I'm happy with the results and have no complaints. In the end, i think both surgerys have positives and negatives...but people can be really successful with either. One of the big positives of the RNY is that there is more evidence based, long term medical knowledge about it...plus its been such a popular procedure so you have the experience of lots of others that you can benefit from. Make the most of whatever sugery is available to you and good luck!
I had my heart set on VSG too but my surgeon recommended the bypass because I already had the band and the restrictive part was not enough for me to lose weight. I also needed the malabsorbing part of the surgery. It was scary to switch...but I am happy with my decision.
