I love looking at the fluffy coat but have NO desire to take care of it. LOL!!

I remember when I got a miniature poodle puppy when one of my kids had a play area that had plastic slatted sides. The puppy was small enough to go in and out as he pleased, until the day his head stopped fitting!! He stood there trying and trying and kept smacking his head. He was SO confused, it was hysterical to watch him!! "Hey, I went in there yesterday...."

We have a similar thing going on here, Martha.  IF Gus puts one shoulder through before the other one (something it took him a few days to figure out) and then wiggles his hips through -- just like Khan did -- he CAN get through the fence in the backyard.  (It is one of those aluminum ones that looks like black wrought iron.)  Yesterday, though, he really had trouble getting his butt through and actually "cried" as he struggled to pull himself through!  Fortunately, he is still not very brave about going too far from the part of the yard up by the house (he still has not explored the back of the yard (and my yard is really not that big!)), so I had the luxury of just laughing at him and not worrying about him going out of the yard and getting into traffic.  With Khan, it was his shoulders that eventually kept him from going through; with Gus it appears that it will be his hips.

Khan was several weeks older before he started having trouble going through the fence (he used to just easily walk through, then sit in the neighbor's yard and look at Max like "why aren't you coming, too?"), so that tells me that Gus is larger than Khan was at the same age.  Hope that doesn't mean he is going to be larger as an adult, because Khan was a large Chow... He was almost 70 pounds at 18 months!

I have no idea about dogs, but horses grow funny. At one point the are back high and another time they might be front high. Each happens several times (to some extent) as they grow to full maturity. It has no correlation to their full grown size though. Hopefully Gus won't get too big! I am quite sure whatever size he finishes out at, he will still be perfect to you.

Well, when he isn't struggling to get back down on the floor or biting anything he can get his mouth on, he is!  He is VERY high energy but is snuggly when he is sleepy!
