I am just wondering how long it took some members here to experience Rapid weight loss after surgery?

Does it take about a month for you body to heal after surgery and then it begins, or does it begin right away for some people?

I am just really trying to figure out maybe when mine will kick in.

I weighed in 10 days after my surgery and was 13 lbs. lighter. For some people, it takes longer to lose the water weight gained from the sheer amount of IV fluids you're given in the hospital. It's really different for everyone.

Everyone is so different. I never really experienced "rapid" weight loss. Mine was pretty slow and steady. The most I lost was like 20 lbs the first month. It just got slower and slower every month after that. But at a year out I was only 20 lbs from goal. So works for me!

I lost 13 pounds in the two weeks after surgery and then six pounds in the next two weeks. I am estatic about 19 pounds in four weeks.

I was slow and steady too! At 10 days I had lost 9 pounds, after that I averaged about 3 pounds a week. Some weeks I lost nothing and some weeks I lost 5 pounds. You are going to lose what your body loses......there is no way to tell. There are probably as many different stories as there are patients.

i know that you are anxious to see the pounds flying off. It is such a build up and all the hoop jumping to get your surgery and then it's like " OK body, it's your turn, let's get to it!! ". I know it's easy for me to say, but make sure you are drinking enough fluids and following you plan and it WILL happen, I promise!

Thank You Martha, and your right I am anxious to see the weight come off. I was so excited to get my surgery and now I have to learn to be patient with my body to respond to the surgery.

I kept waiting for rapid loss to "kick in" but have come to accept that this is not how my body is going to do it.  I haven't had any "rapid" loss since the 2nd week after surgery.  Been slooooooowwwwww...but it's coming off.  I'm eating right, I'm moving and building up exercise.   I'm doing my part, my body will do it's part...just taking longer than I had hoped.

In the first month I lost 24.1lbs, I consider that rapid, weight loss have progressively slowed month-to-month, at 5 months out I have 30lbs to loose to meet "normal" BMI weight.
