Does anyone still use a Rocket Grill?

I've been thinking about buying a Rocket Grill because I'm not much of a cook. It promises to cook to perfection anything from grilled cheese sandwiches to hamburgers and steaks. If it works, I could get in a lot more protein.

I can't find a review on this grill after 2009, which makes me weary. Is there something else people are using instead? The device is $100 and the parchment bags are fairly expensive too, so I don't want to drop my money on something that is already antiquated.

TIA.

I dont know what a rocket is... but I bought when Macy's had a sale a grill pan... Best thing I ever bought, makes your food look like it has grill marks and because of that it even taste better, lol but its the best pan ever and cooks bacon or turkey bacon which I eat now so good. They use these type grill pans on cooking shows.Mine is made by Calphalon and can even put in the oven...

That sounds great. I'll have to look into that too. I just really need to get more protein in, and it needs to be easy for me. So, thank you for sharing that tip.

I have seen them for sale in thrift stores so I would check there before you spend the money.  The ones I saw looked virtually new.  I considered buying one but it looked to complicated.  I know I saw one at 2 different Goodwills in my area and another thrift store.

I never even thought of going to a thrift shop for this. I wonder if I can call around and see if anyone has one, if they would tell me something like that. Thanks for the tip.

I am almost certain that my local Goodwill has one right now.  At lease they did the last several times I've been there.  Try calling around.  They don't seem very popular and don't seem to be flying off the shelves.

I loved my Rocket Grill! The best part was that you can cook frozen food in it like a chicken breast. I bought the bags on Amazon in bulk to save money. I would still use it often but I had to leave it behind when I downsized to my condo. I don't even have a blender anymore, just my single serving one.

I did get one of those grilling pans (at Walmart) and it is OK, but not like the Rocket grill. My family loved panini sandwiches in it too.

I bought mine from QVC some 6 years ago.  Yes the bags are a little pricey, but if you go to ebay, you can find bags (mine came from northern CA) much cheaper and likely the Rocket Grill itself.  I'd recommend you get some extra knobs control the timer.  The spring seems a little too strong, and after a few months, the prongs that affix the know will bend and the know won't work properly.  Yes the machine works great--I prefer to use the normal setting as opposed to frozen food. Softer frozen foods will be something thinner than normal, as the frozen setting puts more pressure on the cooking jaws.  I cook bison burger in the machine often. A regular burger patty takes 3 minutes (not frozen) and a bison burger should only be cooked 2 minutes due to the lower fat content. The parchment cooking bags are kind of different too--they have a segmented bottom, that allows meat fat and juices to drain off into the lower part of the bag, away from the food.  If you're cooking sandwiches or other "non juicy" foods, you can reuse the bags 2-4 times.  I've also taken wooden skewers and threaded shrimp and green peppers on the stick.  I prefer a thinner ground wheat bread--thicker "Texas toast" type breads will be much thinner after cooking, so thinner bread slices work best.  I've had my until since summer 2006, and I've replaced 4-5 knobs.  The extra knobs I found on Ebay are now used up, so I'll likely go to an electronics store and buy a better knob that won't flex so much so that it ends up useless.  I paid something like $35 for my unit with about 40 bags, but that was in 2006.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw =sunbeam+rocket+grill&_sacat=0&_from=R40 has the grills and factory bags.

Sunbeam is the maker, and their site says sold out. If you spend some time, you should be able to find some generic bags. I got my generics from Ebay, although I don't see any current listing.  The $100 is "jacked up price" since they're hard to find new at the moment.  I'd check small appliance stores, Big Lots, etc too.
