Seriously TMI
Hi Everyone! Happy Friday night!
So I have a question that is really TMI......it is about POOP
Ever since I ave had surgery my poo has had this weird metallic smell........I thought it was blood but the poo isn't black like it has old blood and there is not any fresh blood.......it is STINKY......not even poopy but really metallic
Any thoughts why? Could it be my iron supplement?
Thanks :-) Sorry for my cr@ppy question :-)
Yeah, could be iron.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
I'm so happy I watched Dr. OZ talk about our poo...now I just laugh. Yep I think most of us go through this. The consistency and smell stays with you for awhile. If you have a Bariatric Nurse who checks you out every few months I'd discuss it with her. See what vitamin or Iron has to do with it. You could be getting too much sugar, that has an effect on you also. I can only hope your surgery was recent...after 1 or 2 weeks there should not be any blood (unless something is wrong).
Best of luck.

Iron can make your feces greenish in color. Blood will make it black. The high amount of protein you're eating (particularly if it's meat based protein) will make it smell more than usual. Some medications can affect things, too.
