Questions for those of you with RH
I can't remember all of the signs of having had a low blood sugar episode during the night, but the big one that I remember (having had this) is bad dreams. Your blood sugar has to go very low to have seizures or a coma. My best guess is that your regular doctor won't be able to help you very much. Reactive Hypoglycemia in the post WLS patient isn't something most Drs know too much about. Heck, I went to an endocrinologist who admitted to me that he would "have to read up on it".
Honestly, most people can control RH with diet. I couldn't and finally ended up at Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston with a Dr who has studied just this problem. If you PM me your email address I would be happy to send you the info sheets that I got from her.

Paramedics and EMTs don't even treat low blood sugar in the field unless it's under 60... 68 in the middle of the night when you haven't eaten, while low-ish, is not out of the realm of normal.
But having said that, peanut butter is a good choice... protein mixed with a carb will last longer than popping an M&M or something... I often recommend bologna sandwiches on whole wheat bread for the same reason...

I am not a doctor, but I play one at work.
I use PB or cheese, or even nuts as my LNS to offset any RH issue at night. If you can - try to avoid simple carbs at last meal of the day. Yes - you can have low BS and sleep through it. The 68 - may be number that was your body coming out of - and you got awaken due to adrenalin that gets released when BS drops.
I make sure that my PB or Almond butter is as natural as they can be - with no added sugar. That woks best for me.
I also noticed that when I eliminated gluten and processed foods (protein bars) from my diet - my BS got much more stable than when I had food with gluten - even if they were low carb - high fiber - like low carb wraps. You may try that and see if after 2-3 weeks you feel better.

I will have low BS episodes occasionally and have found that a carb & protein combo snack before bed gets me through. Typically a protein shake with frozen berries.
