Low Blood Sugar - RH?
Could this be RH?
I'm about 13.5 months out. Every now and again I wake up in the middle of the night feeling sweaty but cold and clammy and really super hungry. I never thought anything of it until it woke me up right now. I thought, could my sugar be low? So I tested and sure enough my blood sugar was 68. I got some peanut butter and now I'm waiting for my sugar to go up so I can go back to sleep.. Could this weird middle of the night drop in blood sugar be Reactive Hypoglycemia? How can I avoid this in the future?
Yep. I have that happen often. It's gross. I wake up so sweaty my clothes and my bed are soaked. Sometimes I sleep on a towel so I can easily toss it in the wash and keep my matress from getting gross. And I keep a change of clothes by the bed so I can peel off the wet clothes and put on warm, dry stuff easily.
I try to have a high protein snack that also has some carbs right before bed. Sometimes that helps. If I wake up during the night, I often eat a small snack then, too.

UGH!! I had a feeling it was Reactive Hypoglycemia. What are some things you eat before bed? I guess I will have to do that too. This is probably the 8th time this has happened to me and I hate it.
Funny thing is that before tonight I never thought to check my sugar. I would just wake up like that and get up and grab a snack (because of the intense hunger that came with it) and go back to bed. Do I need to talk to my surgeon or GP? Not much they can do for me, right? I just have to make sure to watch for triggers?
I eat things like a protein bar, a cheese sandwich on whole grain bread, or Greek yogurt with fruit before bed. Or sometimes a protein shake made with milk. I avoid things high in carbs and low in protein before bed - no big bowl of popcorn.

I've had this happen to me as well..it was really scary..my blood sugar registered at 56, it took two small snacks and over an hour to get it back up over 70 and then next morning it was under 70 first thing. I now eat a slice of sara lee 45 cal bread toasted with 2 slices of RF cheese at bedtime. My fasting number is still low but I haven't been waking up in the middle of the night since then.
