Am I being realistic?

I took two weeks off and it was too little.  I came home for naps at lunch and barely made it through the day!

I took 2 weeks off, I work 4-10 hour shifts and have no children at home. I was exhausted the first week back. I fell asleep harder and faster then I can ever remember. I would not suggest 1 week off.

My Dr. wouldn't even hear of me going back to wor****il it was discussed at the first Dr. visit two weeks post-op. And then it was only part time for a week before going back full time-and I have a desk job so it would be less strenuous.

Yes, frankly you are being unrealistic. I think you'd be pushing it just to take care of the kids by yourself at a week out, even if they're at daycare part of the time. Will your doctor even approve your going back to work that soon? I'd give it at least three weeks, especially since you'll be on your feet. Give yourself a break. You're worth it.

I was back to my normal routine, working a full-time desk job from home and taking care of my two elementary-school aged children less than a week after my surgery.

While I managed just fine, I don't think that I could have handled what you've spelled out as your normal routine, your children are much smaller and your job sounds way more demanding. I think you would probably crash and burn after a day or so of trying. Be kind to yourself and take more time off of work. You may or may not need additional help with your boys as well.

I was so tired for first month, even though I felt well, by afternoon I needed a nap, and was still to bed very early. There is no way I would have been able to do what you are planing on doing.  I had 6 weeks paid time off work, and had a to do list a mile long thinking I was going to clean my blinds, organize cupboards blah blah with all my time off. Ha! I got very little done in my time off. Measuring, timing, preparing meals, resting, napping, running to washroom ... Even showering exhausted me! Just taking care of myself  and allowing myself to recover was full time!

I was out for two weeks and the only responsibility I had was to feed the cat. I struggled. Believe me the cat did not suffer, he's very self sufficient. I have a desk job and could tell the first day back I should have stayed out another week. I underestimated what a MAJOR operation this is. I was very tired and had no energy. I think you might be underestimating how much time you'll need.
