Today was supposed to be my surgery day.
I was all set, all excited and went to my nutrition class, did all the labs and found out that my thyroid was way off and they cancelled my surgery. It was my fault for not taking the meds the way I should. I am faithfully taking them properly and have a Rx for a repeat blood test which I am going to have on the 26th and hope that it will be the right number to be re-scheduled.
Remember, take all your meds properly. You do not want something like I did to cancel a surgery that you were so looking forward. I am using the time to read more and get things rearranged at home. But still, I have a bad case of the If only's.........
I know that you are really sad about having to wait! I hope that your blood test on the 26th is good and that you get scheduled in soon after that. On the up side though, you have learned a valuable lesson that I am SURE will stay in your mind about the importance of vitamins after surgery, right?

I hope that didn't sound *****y, I sure didn't mean it to!!

TSH range is supposed to be 0.34-5.60. Mine was 73.96! I am supposed to take 250 mcgs daily, first thing am with a glass of water, then nothing other than black coffee or tea for an hour, then take other morning meds (I have a big boxful of daily meds).
I have an old, blind, almost totally deaf little dog who is nearing that time and is playing hell with my sleeping time and I am totally sleep deprived which caused me to really let my meds get out of whack. I would (if I even remembered) take my Synthroid along with all my other morning meds which was as good as not taking it. The doc at Barix told me that as long as I could get it under 20.00, they would reschedule the surgery. After getting a couple of opinions and adding my own, I decided to give it a month before I have it tested again and hope it has gotten to the proper level. I will add that since I had some extra 25 mcg tablets around, I have upped it to 275 mcgs per day. I have cardiac issues and would not go much higher than that as going into cardiac arrest is not my goal here.
Hopefully, a month will do it as I know thyroid takes awhile to really get into your system.
I'm so sorry this happened to you. I also had my surgery cancelled at the last minute. I had to have an ERCP on the friday prior to my Monday surgery to dialate my common bile duct so they could remove my gallbladder when they did my RNY. Anyway,d/t the procedure I developed pancretitas and had a GI bleed that landed me in the hospital having to undergo another ERCP and get a blood transfusion. I was devestated, I had already completed my 10 day liquid diet and everything. I had to wait 8 weeks before they would consider doing the surgery because of the blood transfusion, but everthing worked out for the best. I had my surgery in January 2011 so I'm 2 years post op now and doing great. Hang in there, your time will come.
