How long were you off of work?

I had my surgery on Dec 10th and I go back Thursday.  My doc said 2 weeks would be enough but he didn't have any open appointments to clear me to go bac****il tomorrow. That was fine with me! :)  I'm still tired and worry that I will be exhausted 1/2 way through the work day.

I have an office job and only took two weeks. My first "week" back was only a three day week. By the end of those three days, I was glad I had the next teo days off! Felt much better the third week. Oh, and I'm 53....that might make a difference!

My plan is 2 1/2. I am up and down a lot - but zero lifting.  You are not supposed to lift for a while.

My friend took 12 weeks.  She had RNY, then in her 5th week post op had her gall bladder out and then took 6 more weeks. She has FMLA and disability, so in my opinion she took all she could.  I don't have that luxury.

Everyone is different!

I was off 4 weeks, I probably could have gone back in 3, but I'm glad I had the extra time. I was still really tired.

I had my surgery on a Tuesday and returned the following Monday.  I have an office job.  I really wasn't uncomfortable and was off pain meds by that point.  I did a lot of walking and moving around to help get the gas to go away (that was the worst part in my opinion).  Everyone is different.  I was 27 when I had my surgery and in good health besides the weight and blood pressure.  :)

I took off one week as that is what our doctor requires and won't write a note for more than 3 weeks unless you have complications. I wish I would have taken 2 weeks. I have a desk job with a fair amount of walking/driving weekly.

I took 2.5 weeks off.  In retrospect, I wish I had taken 3 to 4 weeks off.  My bypass was open and not lap.

My surgery was on 12/27, discharged from hospital on 12/30, and going back to work on 1/3. I probably could have gone back yesterday (12/31), but I also work less than 2 miles from home, sit at a desk at a pretty casual, stress-free environment, and I can leave whenever I need/want to.
