C section was worse for me.....It was painful for me to get in & out of bed. Then I got a recliner and used that (it was a God send)...I overdid when I felt fine and ended up in more pain; cause I could feel the internal stiching. Thank God for the Lortab. The pain I felt prior to me hurting myself by trying to do housework, was more terrible muscle ache than anything else. I was super tired out and slept alot....never could get in my water or protein daily and prior to surgery;that was NEVER a problem. But don't stress out, if that happens to you. It will get better and better.

I had two c-sections in 2002 and 2008.  My RNY was lap in 2012.

My c-sections had a much-much longer recovery time.  I was swollen and in pain for 4 weeks with my c-sections.  I was swollen for a week with my RNY.  My surgery pain was about a week.  (I did strain my stomach muscle after surgery and the pulled muscle hurt more than my surgery).

My RNY will be around the same time as yours. I meet my surgeon Jan 23rd and they book out about a month from there. I have had 2 c-sections as well.. one in 2004 and one in 2006. My 1st c-section got badly infected and opened up. I had visiting nurses for over a month coming into my home and changing the bandages, etc. That wasn't working i was later hospitalized and put on heavy antibiotics and pain meds. I got sent home with a wound vac to help close the wound. Well it worked and in 2006 i had my 2nd repeat c-section and drains were put in to my request and i had a cyst removed so the c-section took over an hour because apparently my 1st incision didn't heal properly either so my new obgyn had to make a new one. I also had my tonsils removed, several pre-cancerous moles removed, and last year had lap gallbladder removal i will tell you NOTHING pain wise will ever compare to the pain i went through with the complications of that 1st c-section.

So #1 for me was my 1st c-section after complications

#2 was my gallstones NOT the surgery itself... all though i did have some pain from that
#3 C-Section #2 had a small infection but nothing extreme.
#4 Moles removed

I consider myself to have a pretty high pain tolerance for all these procedures i have had. C-sections are major abdominal surgeries especially since they cut you open NOT lap. I've never had RNY so i cannot say for sure but i would think 5 small tiny incisions is less painful then a huge line cut across your lower abdomen. GL either way we will be surgery buddies =)
