I've don't have kids and i have a low pain tolerance and this surgery was really not painful for me. I only.used the pump 3 times on the first day. And the liquid meds they sent me home on? I only used 2x's- my first 2 days at home I took it when i went to bed. I think you'll find its relatively painless.

As someone said earlier, it felt like I did a million sit-ups...never any pain. Recovery was pretty easy...I had surgery Friday, came home from hospital Sunday, was making lunches and putting dinner in crock pot for family on Monday.

c-section way worse, however, similar that you should press a pillow to stomach to cough or sneeze.

My RNY was less painful than my c sections. Other than not being able to sleep on your belly...it was not bad at all.

Good luck to you. and I hope you have as good of an experience as mine was.

I've not had a C-section nor even my RNY yet (2/6/13 - 32 days but who's counting )  I've heard it compared to gallbladder surgery which I did have in 2011.... and with that I went in to the OR at 9am and was HOME at 1pm and drove myself an hour away 2 days later! Maybe with this surgery its more difficult because of the immediate impact on eating??? So maybe the recovery isn't quite as 'easy'??? Just a thought...... I'll let you know how it compared to my gallbladder surgery when I've had it done.

Just in my opinion..since everyones tolerences are so different..On a scale from most painful to least pain...

1st c-section in 2003 at 19 years old

Gallbladder removal 4 most post RNY 2012(this is ALMOST a tie for first)

2nd c-section 2009 (my entire wound ripped open 10 days post op)

Lap RNY 2011

3rd c-section 2010

Lap bowel obstruction surgery(i feel this was the least painful and easiest recovery because I was 142lbs and had a great BF% and was getting in a ton of protein to aid in recovery)

I had two easy c sections , rny reminded a lot of those. You still have to roll over to get up and those stomach muscle hurt. Most of my pain for the Rny was in my chest and back because that is where all my gas got trapped, . Good luck it really surprised me how easy it was for as serious of an operation it is.

I haven't had csections, but I have had two natural childbirths. I would take RNY any day over those! Recovery was simple and relatively painless.

Hello i just had my surgery Dec 26th 2012 and it was laparoscopic and i have had 3 C-sections and the pain from the WLS was way more pain full than any of my C-sections  i did take any meds after the 3rd day, I was told by my best friend and someone in a support group it feels like a Mack truck hit you in the stomach, I would Agree, but everyone pain tolerance is different Im sure you'll be fine and they have great pain meds for you. ..

Let me start by saying that I don't tolerate pain...BIG whiny, baby here!
I had a Csection, then a few years later I had a total hysterectomy.  The Csection wasn't really bad.  The fact that I had a little bundle of joy might have been why it wasn't so terrible?  But, the hysterectomy was horrible!  I had pain from the time I came out of recovery until I got into my med/surg room, and then lasted until was at home.  The pain pills barely touched the pain for the longest time.
My RNY was done laparoscopically. I had a pain pump the first day and a half and I used it regularly. After it was removed, the pain wasn't bad.  I took my pain pills pretty much the first few days, but weaned off of them quickly.  More soreness than pain.

I've had 3 C-Sections and I think they were worse than RNY surgery. I had pain with RNY and with getting up and down but it didn't last as long as the Pain from the C-Sections did.
