Belly rash aka jock itch type thing going on...

I have developed a HUGE rash under my belly that hangs down.  I looked at it in the mirror today and it looks terribly red under my belly fat flap and on my leg and the skin under my belly.  It has been like this for a few days now.

I have been washing it out and spraying jock itch stuff on it twice a day, according to the instructions on the can.  I am two weeks out from surgery and have never had anything like this happen to me before.

I have lost about 30 pounds since my post-surgery high and had a big belly even before surgery,

Should I call the doctor tomorrow or should I wait a few days to see if it clears up with the spray?

Thanks,

Julie :)

I've had this happen a couple of times, the final so bad I went to the dermatologist.  She gave me a cream (sorry, can't remember what it was) but since then I use an anti-fungal powder that I get at a local independent pharmacy (chains don't carry it).  No problem since as long as I use it regularly.  Brand is Zeasorb, basically also a athlete's foot powder.

My doctor said it's pretty common in heavy people, under the stomach or breasts (mine aren't big enough to have this problem).

I would get it looked at, it probably won't clear up by itself.

Zinc Diaper rash cream is the cure clean well and then put the cream on. Less is more in this case as it's such a thick cream. Guess it's a pretty common occurrence. Walmart has a Parents Choice brand that is cheap and works well.

The spray is unlikely to help.  Your PCP can give you a prescription for Nystatin powder which usually helps.  Be sure the doctor documents the rash and the severity of it, so that you have documentation if you decide to seek insurance approval for a panniculectomy down the road once your weight is stable.  They will require that documentation of efforts to treat the rashes.  Do NOT put cornstarch or baby powder on it, because that can actually make it worse.

Unfortunately, this is common in heavier people.  I was told to use corn starch or baby powder to keep the area dry.  That's the most important thing.  Clean properly and keep it dry.  It's embarrassing and uncomfortable, but it's a reality.  Sometimes, as women, our bodies go through changes that cause it to be stronger, too.  Yuck.  I tried a lot of things before I just started using good old fashioned baby powder!

Good luck!!

It has never made it worse for me and I have a friend that uses the same.  Just my two cents!!

is it slimy and stinky?  if so, there's yeast involved.  i am plagued by this, have been for years, underneath the belly and in the crotch creases. pain in the ass!  i use the foot spray too.  lotrimin, the brand name one, works best for me.

Great idea about the documentation for future insurance needs.

If its red or yeasty you can always put Monistat on it. I use baby powder on my pooch but I have to clean the powder off daily or it irritates my skin
