I am a little sad tonight. My family went out to the Chinese buffet and I am soo freaking jealous.  My husband asked if he could bring me back something HA! I told him the egg drop soup.  Do you think this appropriate I am almost 2 weeks out.

Thanks all!

The broth is probably ok if it's not too fatty.

I don't know if its OK but I did have some about two weeks out. It went down fine. But I couldn't eat very much of it.

Hi KARLA:  Oh please don't be sad you couldn't go with your family to the Chinese Buffet.  I made that mistake and almost ended up back in the hospital.   Afterwards I found out the body is NOT ready for  buffets for several weeks or in some cases months.  It brings us to lots of temptation..  It also leads us to believe we can eat until we are stuffed (Like before surgery).

Because Chinese foods have so much MSG and other preservatives our new system doesn't digest it well and in my case I was very, very, very sick.  Several others have told me the same happened to them.

Now having said that, some responders have indicated if they can stick with  just Soup, Salads, Jello, pudding etc; they are able to go with their family, but at to weeks out,  you are NO WHERE near ready for that.   Eating out will be a tough nut to crack, because our old ways come sneaking back.  Oh just one bite of this and one bite of that...buffets are tricky  like that.  So my recommendation is to thank your lucky stars and your family.  Stick with your soft foods and then pureed foods.

Didn't your nutritionist give you a full list of what foods you can eat and when you can eat them? I would insist on it if you can.  Enjoy the Egg Drop Soup.

I had my sleeve done 10 days ago, and my family went to chinese buffet as well. I went with them. I told them when I went in that I only wanted a bowl of soup. I got a bowl of egg drop and I was fine. Yes, I wanted to scour the buffet, but you know what? I feel SO strong. I look at it this way. The liquids aren't forever, and everything I have wanted to taste, I have tasted. If I ate everything I wanted to, I'd never reach my goal. Stay Strong!
