What Labs should I have checked?
Hello All -
Happy Thursday! I had my 3 month appointment last month and because the stupid nutritionist took so dang long I did not have my labs drawn there - I have the lab slip in my pocket but the ONLY thing that they are checking for my 3 month labs is my thyroid (I have a thyroid issue) and my vitamin D - it was low prior to surgery. Needless to say - irritation!
I think I should have the full enchilada of blood work drawn. I want to see how my levels are and make sure I am not deficient in anything - I want to make sure I am healthy.
What blood work should I have done?
How can I convince my PCP to run all of it - I am trying to figure out some type of ailment so I can go to see her and then slide the blood work request in :-) Of course I want to do it before the end of the year as we have met ALL of our deductibles :-)
Thanks in advance!
All I did was ask to have a list of blood work done. I explained to my doctor that I wanted to keep better track of my levels to make sure my vitamins are enough. Here is a post that I found giving all the lab work. http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/rny/4152810/Pam-T-or-Vital adyLa/

I don't understand why you need to figure out some sort of ailment to see your PCP and then slide the bloodwork request in. Why can't you just make an appointment, go in, and say "I need some labs done because of my gastric bypass surgery. Here's a list. Could you please order them for me?" That's what I do every six months or so.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
Thanks for the replies Ladies! I am going to do that tomorrow! - I appreciate the lists!
Kelly - The reason I was trying to see the Dr. is that I have a 40.00 co-pay just to walk in the door - if I am going to go in and ask her to order me labs I don't want to spend 40.00 for an office visit :-) Call me cheap!
