My doctor prescribed it to me several times before I had surgery ! It made me very moody. I did lose a lot of weight while on it, but gained it all back after I quit taking them. It totally takes your hunger away, but when you quit you go crazy because you feel so hungry. Please think about this before you take them. I also had never had a leaky heart valve before taking phentermine and now I do.  I am not sure if the pills caused the leak but that's what some of the other pills in the past did.

I have a friend who took it and she experienced a similar experience like the above poster.  She regained all of the weight plus a little more after she stopped taking it.  She also experienced hair loss as a side effect.  I don't think it is something I would choose for myself.  I'm curious, was it your PCP or RNY surgeon who provided the prescription?

Its basically  perscription meth. If you wouldn't do meth without a percription..don't do it with one. It is addictive, bad for your heart, and will make your head loopy.

I guess figure out how the weight regained. Did you follow your exercise and eating program? How are you feeling mentally? Have a complete check up to rule out any causes.

Phentermine is speed. It increases your heart rate and decreases your appetite. I told my doctor thanks, but no thanks. I have an addictive personality and I try to stay away from things that could cause a problem.

It worked a little for me - then it started making me angry and a moody S.O.B.

That was pre-surgery.

Why not take steps to determine why you gained weight?  What have you done to get back on track?  Have you tried "going back to the basics?"

From my experience diet pills do not work.  You may lose weight but as soon as you stop taking them, the weight returns plus an additional 10 lbs.  It seems to me that taking diet pills may not be a good choice.  Why get on that merry-go-round again?

Finally, many people pay a big price with those drugs.  IMHO not worth it.

Just my opinion, but if amphetamines worked to keep weight off long term, none of us would have needed surgery, and if you do not address the reason for the regain, you will just gain back anything you lose taking the drugs.  Diet pills can be dangerous, especially if people have hidden medical issues.  (Have you read the possible aide effects of phentermine?  Some serious stuff...)

You already have the ability to keep the weight off if you follow through on making good food choices, avoid snacking, and are watchful of your portions.  Using the tool you already have may not be the fastest, easiest way to drop 30 pounds, but it is the most reliable method and doesn't pose any health risks.

Even though extremely overweight, I never had blood pressure issues UNTIL I took phentermine. I think it's bad news. I did lose 80 lbs while taking it, but gained back 100 after I had to quit & get on B meds. :( BE CAREFUL!
