OT: lied to again by the breeder

What do you think the response would be if you said something along the lines of "well, since you don't have any red males, I guess I'll just go ahead and take a refund instead"?

I would not ask for a refund, but rather tell her that it's expected that she will give you one...

I am so bummed for you because I know this has got to be totally gut wrenching.

I don't know what the response would be, but unless I can find another REAL Chow breeder who has some winter litters expected (and that might have red puppies), that might delay things even more if they have a waiting list.  At least I am at the top of the list (or allegedly so) with this breeder.

Geez, I'm sorry. I hate to see you going through this. I don't have any advice, but I hope there is a resolution soon.

take care

ETA: I had a thought, and it might not work at all, but here goes. Does the woman they sold the red male to, the one with pups, have a red male? If so, would they pay her for a pup for you? I don't know if her pups have the quality and temperament of the original breeders or if this is just a wild goose chase, though.

I already thought of that!  She posted pictures right away and she has only black (or blue... cannot tell from the photo) and cream puppies.

I like the way you think, though

I know little about puppies except they are cute.  But I can say...DON'T EAT THE COOKIE!  :)  Sorry for your troubles.

That is exactly why there ARE no cookies in my house.  Unless you count RF Nilla wafers as cookies.... which I don't.

I would do a little research on Chow breeders. There is likely one or more regional or local Chow breeder "clubs", "groups", etc. You might mention your issue to one of these groups. They may be able to give you some assistance.  All you may need is to know the name of a group, and just mentioning that group name may get her to deal in a professional manner.  I'm a cat breeder and there are many breeders I've run across that do "strange things", like offer time payment plans, highly inflated prices, extensive "very personal" applications (race, gay?, your vets name, your place of employement, etc.), etc.  Warranties need to be honored rapidly, not hiding dogs to delay delivery of a dog they promised.  If you fail to get any action in a very short time, I'd strongly consider filing a small claims court case against the breeder. There are millions of wonderful dogs sitting in shelters just days away from their death. Why wouldn't you save the life of an innocent pup? Just because they aren't purebred doesn't mean they aren't amazing dogs.

Forgive me if I've overstepped my boundaries here as I have not been following your story. I hate you haven't been able to get a puppy. They make life wonderful!

Big long story ... and it is vitally important she be able to get the dog she wants

edited to add - totally get where you are coming from, I foster for our local humane society.... but there are several very valid reasons for getting a dog from a breeder, and Lora has those

I specifically need a dog that will be intimidating, that I know will actually be protective rather than just bark (as my Scottie will), and that could physically take down or chase off an attacker. Because of my bad knees, I also need a dog that does not require a lot of exercise or a very large yard (which most breeds of guard dogs do). Unfortunately, there is no way to be sure of that with a shelter dog, but I am assured of all of that with a Chow.
