I am in a very similar situation to you - I am in the throes of a divorce and never know til the last minute whether my STBX is taking my son or not (hasn't taken him ONE holiday this year, so can probably safely presume I have him for Christmas as I have for Labour Day, Memorial Day, 4th July etc) and my older son tries to alternate between me and his gf's family ...

I am bound and determined to NOT be the nagging MIL and so leave open invitations for them if her parents don't step up but it leaves me in a bit of a limbo til the last minute.

This is also my bf's busiest time of the year (he's in the skiing industry) and so if everything is aligned - I could well spend Christmas on my own ...  and I actually probably won't mind.

We are all having Thanksgiving together at my son and his gf - my bf and my youngest too - so I will be thankful for that tomorrow!

One year when I decided to be home alone - I told one set of friends that I do have plans with the other set of friends.   After  the fact I admitted that was home alone - and that I choose to lie - it was  a white lie -since I didn't want them to worry about me.

I might just have to keep that in mind if the situation arises again.....

TURN THE RINGER OFF!!!

LOL! I get it. I am actually going to face this very same situation on my birthday I think. I never really got into my birthday and the only reason I ever acknowledged it was to indulge my mom. My mom is gone. So the day can be like any other day. I no want a birthday!

I would rather celebrate my childrens birthdays than my own, after all the day that they were born was all about me enlightened and the anniversary of that day should be too .

Sounds like heaven to me!!!!   I work full time and just  a few days to stay at home would be wonderful!!!   We have traveled every year for the last 30 years and I am thankful we still have family to visit, but being home would be nice.

Also, all the cooking stuff drives me crazy!  I said I would bring the turkey and I have driven my self crazy about it - finally went to Honey Baked Ham today and bought a smoked turkey breast - can you believe I am over half a century old and have never cooked a turkey or turkey breast!!!

I am thankful that we do not have all the drama many families experience but a little peace and quiet would be nice!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

One of my favorite Thanksgivings ever was spent completely alone watching a marathon on the sci-fi channel and eating takeout. Much less stressful.  I talked to my family on the phone and I was fine.

But they were all very freaked out about me going solo!

Have a great Thanksgiving!  :)

Family drama, funny I thought I was the only one that had it.  I normally cook every year and have family over.  I like to cook but it is a lot of work especially getting ready, shopping, cleaning the house and working a full time job.  This year will be just under 3 months from my RNY.

We finally settled on going to friends house this year.  They know I had the surgery (my family does not) We can have fun without any drama!

I like to get in the mood by watching movies about famil drama too.  The Ref, and A Fitzgerald  Family Christmas are good ones to watch.

We were also able to go out last night.  My husband and my two girls went to the movies to see Life of Pi.  It was nice because normally we are home cleaning and working on thanksgiving prep.  Most of the time either my husband or I am working so only one parent is doing something with the kids.  It was nice for all of us.

Life is too short not to decide what you want to do for the holidays.
