One week post op tomorrow..... Terrible pain!

I have horrific pain still after a week (tomorrow). I would say 8 or 9 out of 10 on the pain scale. I didn't expect so much pain. I also had hernia surgery at the same time. Is this normal? How long did you guys have significant pain? I can hardly even get out of bed.

I had surgery on the 23rd.  My pain was pretty intense until right at 7 days post op.  For whatever reason, it mostly disappeared overnight.  I did/do still have incision pain at night when I am in bed, although I haven't had to take the pain meds in a couple of days, as the pain is tolerable.  I did alot better with the pain though when I was NOT in bed, like sitting up on my couch or recliner.  You may try to change your position to help with pain.  I hope you feel better soon!

If you are having intense pain, I would suggest that you call your surgeon. Let him/her know all that you have tried and whether or not whatever you have tries alleviates any of the pain you are experiencing or not.

I had pretty bad pain until 7-8 days out as well and then it just improved overnight. Everyday that goes by gets better. I am still sleeping in a recliner but I'm close to moving to a bed again. It gets better, hang in there. :)

I guess I have been fortunate.  I have not had any trouble sleeping, and no incision pain, but I get pain still everytime I swallow, and I am thirsty alllllll the time.  I am 7 days out now, can anyone help????  Thanks!
