Well THAT was interesting! Bending and barfing...

Five years out, and this was certainly a first...

I had a late dinner tonight (a turkey, ham, cheese, cucumber, green pepper, and banana pepper roll up (no bread)), and I admittedly did take that "one extra bite" even after I felt full (I only had one bite left), but I was not uncomfortably full. About 15 minutes later, I dropped an open pill bottle. Since my knee has been very sore this week, I bent over at the waist to pick them up, and before I had time to pick up the bottle and half dozen capsules, up came some of my dinner with almost no warning whatsoever!

It was very odd and I never would have expected that! I assume it has something to do with the pouch being right at the end of the esophagus and the pressure from bending in that manner...

Oh my! That must have been quite a surprise for you! Your logic regarding the pouch and esophagus makes total sense though. I think you're onto something there! Hope you feel better quickly if you don't already!

I feel fine.  I actually felt fine before I threw up and afterward.

Oh my! These things are good to know. I'll watch with that extra bite and a bend forward. Don't want it to happen, at least not in public! Thanks for sharing.

Yes, that does make sense.  Thanks for sharing.  These are the shared experiences that will help all of us!  Good thing that you weren't out someplace in public.  Interesting to know that there are new experiences even years out.

I'm really surprised by your post. I thought for sure you were going to say that you were unable to vomit while bent over. I had my first RNY in april of this year, the second one in sept. and I still have to use the sink if I pu**** too far! devil

I had something similar happen. It was right after I ate and I bent over to pick up a dog toy and my food just kinda oozed out. I wasn't in pain, didnt feel sick or anything. It was weird.

Now, when I actually want to throw up, I can't! But usually it's been 20 minutes or more when I start feeling sick, not emediately after.
So it makes sense that just bending over right after eating the food came out. It has to go somewhere! And if it can't go down, up it comes!

Yes.  I guess the fact that it came up instead of being pushed down means that my stoma is still nice and tight.  I didn't feel sick or anything... it was just like a sudden rush of food.

Glad to hear I am not the only one!  I think bending from the waist and being full created a "perfect storm"...

This is exactly how I make myself vomit when something is stuck (still happens for me sometimes) - there is no retching, discomfort or bile taste like "normal" people vomit - it's just like a baby posseting!!!!

Very simple and the result is just relief - no discomfort at all ...

Yep... nothing nasty or uncomfortable... it just comes up.  I have only thrown up a handful of times in 5 years (even including illness), and only once was it a bad experience, but that time I could taste the acid.  Ick.

I was just surprised that it happened and that I had never read anything about it here.
