Click Drinkers Read THIS

Recently I decided to track exactly how many servings I got from a canister of Click. I found myself using about a canister a week (one mug a day) and the package says "about 14" servings per canister. I am getting 9 or less using 2 flat top scoops!!! (2 scoops is a serving)

I decided to contact the people at Click and find out whatsup with that. They were very quick to get back to me and this is what the email said:

"HI Martha,
A serving is 32 grams. The scoop is not designed as a precise measuring device but is the closest in size to meet, at best, a single serving. I continue to look for a more precise scoop that would accurately reflect a scoop size that would equal a level measurement, but they are usually much bigger or too small. In essence, the correct 32 grams is about 1/8 or so from the top of the scoop lightly packed. I have attached a measured scoop. Two scoops of this size of CLICK equals 32grams. Hope this helps.
There was a photo attached of what a scoop is supposed to look like:

I don't know about you, but this kind of makes me angry....I try very hard to correctly track my intake of many things, including sugar, and this throws me way off!!

Wow, that is very misleading! I also track what I eat and drink I find this to be a little unacceptable. I think I will send them an email as well; just to let them know I am not happy that they don't properly disclose their serving size. They shouldn't be recommending "2 scoops" if it isn't a "scoop."

Thanks!!

What is so hard about having a scoop made that is accurate to the true measurement? They are full of poop.

 Playing devil's advocate:

Click is not a big company, but a mom and pop shop.

My site, Bariatric Foodie, sells sample kits for protein shakes. I can't afford to have custom stuff made up for those. I just don't have the capital. I suspect Click is the same. They are a small company that can't afford to custom order scoops without significantly raising their prices. If they raise their prices, people won't buy the product (because, realistically, for what you get in that canister it is already at a premium price).

But where they lack in company size they seem to make up in promotions (they are always doing specials/discounts) and customer service.

So while it irks me that the scoop doesn't match up, I will still buy Click. Hell, I'll probably still use 2 full scoops! (I'll just log then as 2.16 scoops in my food diary!)

Actually - the 2 full scoops will be more like 2.29 servings... if you want to be accurate (the engineer in me could let it go... )

Are they also unable to afford to print the accurate info on the label?  Right now the label says a serving is "2 scoops (32 grams)."  That suggests that 2 scoops = 32 grams.  Why not print "2 scoops filled 7/8 full (32 grams)" or "32 grams (almost two full scoops)" or give the amount in tablespoons or something?

I believe the grams thing is federal law. So far as the nutrition info the last time I checked the servings per container says ABOUT 14. Not 14 exactly.

Either way, not my job to defend the company to the death. Just sayin I can relate to what it's like to be a startup.

The grams thing may be federal law.  However, federal law does NOT prevent  them from saying "2 scoops filled 7/8 full" instead of just saying "2 scoops."  I don't believe it would cost significantly more to print a more accurate description of the serving size on the label, either.

I understand being a start up.  But I also understand that accurate information about serving sizes is important to many of their targeted customers, including folks that dump on too much sugar.

Duly noted. Although being in communications I can tell you a few reasons why they'd never do it.

1. People get pissed off by that. (I get pissed at Kay's Naturals that their 1.5 oz chips are 1.5 servings)

2. Studies show MOST people don't look at nutritional labels (even dieters) and those that do don't understand them well enough to know the difference.

3. Nobody else in the food world does it.

Not saying that's right. But it is what it is.

Considering the feds allow a generous margin of error on estimated calorie counts, I personally wouldn't bother with it if I owned a food company IF I was operating simply from a profit perspective. And most small businesses have to.
