Hey! I'm new here and just looking for support and people who understand what I'm going through. My RNY is scheduled for October 30.  My liquid diet starts next Tuesday and I am terrified of being hungry.

Welcome! and good luck! Not going to surgar coat it, the liquid diet is hard for the first few days, but after that it gets easier.  I don't remember feeling hungry, in fact I had to force myself to get in enough shakes because you get sick of drinking them! You'll see, and it's all worth it in the end! I am 6 weeks out and down 31 lbs from 238-207!

Welcome to OH.....I didn't have to do a liquid diet to lose weight. They made me do it however I could. But some docs like the liquid diet so nothing in your intestines that could cause bacteria to everything else during surgery. Try to think of it as just a short time you have to do this and then that's it. Be strong. If you use protein drinks you won't be hungry at all. Drink lots of water and that will help the weight go down too. After surgery, you won't have to worry about "hunger"....at least I don't....I am on my 6th week and I am down 32 lbs.....from pre-surgery weight of 357lbs to 300lbs as of today. The journey may not be all smooth; but the outcome is awesome...I am off all of my medications too.

Welcome!

My surgeon did not require a pre-op liquid diet...

I've seen several folks post on here about it though, and it seems the first few days are the hardest.  Keep your hands and head busy so you wont think about it too much.......and scan lots of before and after pics on here so you can keep your eye on the prize!

You can do it.

Welcome and congrats on your surgery date!  My hardest part was giving up the caffeine withdrawal.
also, warm liquids seem to help with hungry also.  So for dinner I had warm broth

Hi,
I am three weeks post op.  I had to do Optifast LIquid Diet for 14 days preop.  OMG it was very hard.  The hardest day was the third day for me.  I cried.  But... I kept reminding myself how much I wanted it.  After that, I was good to go.  It is well worth it.  Trust me... Good luck .
