Where you been at, Nik??? (With pics!)
I have been scarce lately! But I missed you guys.
The last few days I've been attending a conference for people who blog about health and fitness called FitBloggin. This conference was so great! The good is that I met tons of great people, learned a lot of stuff and had some great experiences. The minus...well not really but...I have a LOT of work to do to bring Bariatric Foodie up to par. But I can do it!
So anyway some highlights. The first day I took a tour of the McCormick spice factory! That was really interesting. They treated us to a NICE lunch, had cooking demonstrations and also let us see how they do flavor research. They've got this initiative going called Generation Fresh where they are promoting the use of spices to reduce the sodium, sugar and fat we add to food. All the dishes they served us were great! Here's my lunch plate:
That's a lot of stuff! They gave us a pan seared tilapia with a citrusy veggie relish, ribboned zucchni with red curry vinaigrette, a kickass farro risotto, some sort of couscous/veggie concoction, semsame grilled asparagus and citrus chicken with a pineapple relish on top. NOM!
After returning from that tour I ran into a few folks you guys might recognize:
That would be Eggface in the green and Melting Mama in the black. I look very tall next to them!
Anyhoo...at the end of the day I also got my conference swag bag. Check it:
Notice on the right...SHOES! I got a brand new pair of Reeboks! Yay! I get excited at shoes. I am a single mom. I do not get shoes often.
Even more exciting was that I got into this conference FREE for agreeing to live blog one session. So these shoes, for me, were absolutely free. Everyone else...it was sort of a nice return on the high registration fee!
I met tons of interesting people, all of whom had blog cards (big lesson for me: get blog cards!). I even met a reality tv person. Mark, from season 10 of the Biggest Loser.
That's him after Melting Mama photo'd him with some Fit Frappe :)
The only downside to the conference was that I was doing battle with the world's worst cold during the whole thing and today that came to a head. I have no voice. I mean...no voice.
But was impatient about showing off the rest of the swag they gave us throughout the conference so I made this video about it. I think I missed my calling as a mime.
Anyhoo...that's where I've been. I have lots of great ideas to incorporate into my blog and even lots of new recipe ideas to try. I look forward to sharing them with you!
