Exreme Tiredness

I had surgery on Sept 10th and I knew that I would be very tired after surgery, but this seems to be extreme. After I take a shower, I have to sit on the bed because I am so worn out. After I comb my hair, I need to take a break because I am so worn out. Has anyone else experienced tiredness like this before?

I felt like that right after my surgery.  I really didn't start to feel like myself until week 6 or 7.  I don't feel like I have to nap or sit down every little thing anymore.

If you don't start getting energy back at 4 weeks talk to your doctor about the issue. They need to do blood work on you.

I had my RNY on the same day as you.  I was extremely tired for the first week but it has gradually subsided.  Make sure you are getting your protien and taking your supplements.  That has been a big help for me.  I would love to keep up with you and your progress.  I wish you the best.

My doctors office said many people feel tired which seems to get much better around 3 months out. Another thing to watch out for is dehydration which causes fatigue, so make sure you're  drinking enough fluids.

Yeah, what Kat said!

I would take a nap every afternoon.  You are still recovering.

Yeah, my enegy was ZIP for the first month, it's gradually coming back.  But I notice that anything involving raising my arms (shower, hairbrushing, etc.) makes me more tired, even now!

I think it's pretty Normal to feel that way at first. It took me almost 6 weeks to start feeling less tired. I went beck to work at 4 weeks and I was so tired at first. By six weeks I felt much better.

Took me at least 6 weeks to get my energy back. I would nap everyday. Make sure you are getting your fluids in.

I had my surgery on the 14th and I have felt the same way. It seems to get a little better everyday. For the first week I could fall asleep sitting up in the middle of a conversation. I'm still not sleeping much at a time anyhow do to backpain - but it is improving ever slightly every day.

I am no longer defined, by the wreckage behind!
