Restoril?

I an still struggling with insomnia.  Partly stress related, partly menopausal, I think.  Ambien gives me hallucinations (which is REALLY bad for someone with PTSD), the Trazadone made me throw up, the Sonata and Lunesta help only sometimes, the Tylenol PM does nothing, (or makes me just drowsy enough to fall partly asleep but then I wake up again right away), so now we are going to try Restoril.

Just curious what others' experiences are with it.

I take 15mg of it and it helps.  I've been taking it for a while though and may need to up the mg's.  I haven't had any side effects from it at all.

I've used the generic form of Restoril for years. Without it I likely wouldn't hardly sleep. It worked fine before RNY, but not quite as well for me post op.  No vivid dreams, no sleep eating, no getting sick, etc.  Every pateint may respond in a sligtly different manner, but these are my experiences.  I usually add a 2nd "ingredient" to help me sleep, but still think the Restoril works, just not as well as it did preop for me. Have you tried Xanax? It's an anti-anxiety drug but my doctor prescribed it for me to help me sleep. I only take it about once a month, but just having it on-hand makes me feel better. I only take a quarter of one when I do take it.

Yep tried that and the Ativan. Both helped the anxiety, and I still periodically take Ativan for PTSD-related anxiety, but it doesn't really help with sleep (at least not at he dose he prescribed it at).

Fortunately, the Restoril worked VERY well last night!

I'm not taking it now but I have and it's worked for me. Have you tried an anti-anxiety med? I have Ativan that I take to sleep when I just can't shut my mind down to sleep.

I tired both Xanax and Ativan.  Both helped with anxiety but was not enough to help much wih sleep.  I  have the Ativan for when the PTSD-related anxiety flares up.
