Woman Question...about Bleeding

Ok, I had surgery 9/10, everything is going great, been moving, off pain meds, really I couldn't ask for more.  The one thing my Dr. was very concerned about was bleeding.  He said that I have a low blood count to begin with so he wants to make sure there is no bleeding and stop it fast if I do.  This morning I woke up and when I went to the bathroom I was spotting.  At first I totally freaked but then realized it could be my period (about 4 days early).  So, my question is, when you look for blood from leakage, I thought it was from BM's, right?  This is probably just my period, right?

Thank you

Dina

likely your period. Many people have menstrual issues post surgery (estrogen is stored in fat, so the rapid release of hormones messes things up)

Vaginal bleeding would not be from a leak in your digestive tract, no.  Bleeding in your stomach or intestines would have to come out from your bowels or your mouth.

Yes, you would definately know if you were bleeding internally or at least I did. It was the worst smelling BM and the dark color. Scary but definately different it sounds like than what you are experiencing. I did not have a period for three months after my RNY surgery and the same for my pannulectomy.

hugs and best wishes,
Sherrie

I'm sure it's just your period.  Menstrual cycles change up at first after surgery.  I was a whole week late the next month after surgery!

I had my period 2 wks before surgery and a few days after I was home, I had my period. AUGH! My surgeon said that bleeding isn't always your period, but that it's normal because of the hormonal issues caused by the shock to your system. And yes....blood inside would show up in your bowel movements.
