GRILLED CHICKEN VS BOILED CHICKEN
So thinking back to my younger yrs I reamber my bodybuilder freind use to just eat protein all day long boiled chicken protein shakes and protein bars watch the sugar intake big time no sauce on the chicken I was at a stall for two weeks switched it up protein shake 100 grams of protein or egg whites everythree hrs eat some sort of protein so I thought hey this sounds like a good way to eat post gastric bypass so started over the weekend and got to break mt stall today my surgeon is alway's stressing protein so I thought this was a good idea to try open to suggestions
Poached chicken is really good with some added ingredients in the water. add some fresh herbs (if you have it) rosemary, 3 or 4 4 inch sprigs, lemon thyme, sweet marjoram, fresh parsley, with onion and celery stalks. Sprinkle a little granular chicken broth in the pot and simmer until done. You can also do it in the oven...it's called French roasting. Put everything in a baking pan with an inch or two of water and 1/2 to 1 cup of vermouth. Bake at 350 for about an hour. Save the broth, strain it and when it cools, remove the fat. You can freeze the broth and use it for soups or to add moisture to any dish.
To boil chicken, start it in cold water and bring it to a boil then turn the heat down to a simmer. It won't be so tough.
It is myth that high protein diets damage the kidneys in persons with normal kidney functions - a myth that refuses to die among ill informed persons ...
Bodybuilders are recommended to eat a diet with 1 g of protein per pound of lean body mass (Lowest - while some even recommend as much as 1 g of protein per pound of total body mass. Meaning a realtively lean 200 pound bodybuilder with a bodyfat percentage of 12 should eat between - 176 - 200 g of protein each day. (some pro bodybuilders take much more .... which is probably a waste ...
A overweight person weighing 200 pounds with a bodyfat percentage of 30 - leading a sedentary lifestyle - does not need anywhere near the amounts of protein a bodybuilder needs.
Morbidly obese persons who had RNY gastric bypass surgery, who may do some cardio vascular exercises, but no - to little weight/resistance training and who are considered very succesfull in reaching a normal weight - often end up being "Skinny fat" - and if they attempt to loose that fat they end up looking like holocaust prisoners.
I swear - had I followed my WLS nuts recommendations about protein intake - max. 90 g per day - I would have ended up sooo Skinny FAT - probably around 170 pounds - with a bodyfat percentage of 20-22 - I did however choose to go for the lowest of the recommended intake for bodybuilders. I have no idea how much protein I absorbed - and it probably vary until the intestines somewhat adapts - but at best it seems to be guess work and highly individual ...and serious weight training and getting enough protein minimizes the loss of muscle - during the weight loss phase.
Some other men who have gotten RNYgstric bypass - I know - have ended up skinny fat - and some are even regaining a little more than they should - since they did NOTHING - they just sat there and wasted away ... normalweight - but too high body fat percentage - and no muscle definition what-so-ever - even tiny muscles showing clear signs of muscle atrophy - that is what they got from following the nutritionists and dieticians advice ...and they are weak as f...ck. If they try to train and gain more muscle mass - they have to eat a slight surplus of calories - work harder with weights - and are wise to increase their protein intake too - with out going to extremes. Many could have prevented this loss of muscles - after gastric bypass - had they trained with weights and eaten more protein.
A friend of mine ended up normal weight after his RNY Gastric bypass surgery - but when he started training last year - he had a bodyfat percentage of 24. Somehow his body ended up with 30 pounds of fat more than me ... He even has way more loose skin than I do. Why weight training is not considered essential for patients who have had WLS beats me...
As for the chicken - having had RNY gastric bypass surgery - I can not eat as much chicken as some bodybuilders do - dry chicken breasts also quickly become - boring, dry and tasteless - I cook Thai and Indian inspired chicken recipes - that leaves the chicken moist and very tender :-) - and I love my chicken now. I do have to supplement with 2 scoops of protein powder daily - one shake - one used in protein pancakes or high fibre protein muffins etc - Even added in neutral flavour to some of my dishes.
